Add a 'Theme'
This article is a step-by-step guide on adding a new theme to your project
Not sure what 'Themes' are, or how to use them?
Add a new theme (for context and keyword themes)
- From My Projects, click on the project you want to add a new theme to. If you want the theme to be applied to multiple projects, go ahead and create your theme in one project, and it can be copied over once created.
- From the left panel, choose Themes and navigate to the theme page.
- Use the search bar on the top left to see if your theme already exists. This step is optional but recommended to avoid duplicating themes, especially if there are multiple users in your project.
- Decide if you want to add your new theme to an existing theme category or create a new theme category. Don't worry too much about this, themes can be moved between categories once created.
- To create a new theme category, click the Create a theme category bar at the top of the theme page.
- Name your category by typing in the white bubble and click Save once done. You can edit the category name by clicking the edit pencil next to it.
- To add your theme, first open the relevant theme category by clicking the downward arrow to the left of the category name. This will expand the category and reveal the existing themes within it. To add a new theme, click the Add theme bar at the top.
- Name your theme by typing in the white bubble. Select the relevant theme type (essential) and theme colour (optional). If you're not sure whether a context or keyword theme is best, see our tip. Click Create once done.
💡 Tip: Choosing a theme name and using theme colours
Choosing a theme name
The name of your theme should make clear what you are categorising and be understood easily by your readership (the people and stakeholders who will be using the platform, or reading reports and visuals where the name is used/shown). It should not be too long, as when you use themes for analysis or creating visuals, you want the name to be clear and not cut off. For this reason, we'd generally recommend not adding a prefix to your theme names, and instead use the Theme Category to group your themes. The name you give the theme will not impact the theme training at all, and can be changed.
Using theme colours
Choosing a theme colour is optional but helpful if you want to use colours as a way of identifying different types of themes. For example, you may want to use a different colour to indicate themes created by different users. To edit the theme colour, including for upload themes, use the edit pencil to edit the theme, and select the colour you'd like.
